Dan is a coach. He loves hockey as you can see by the number of teams he is involved in!
 
How many hours a week does this person volunteer and in what role(s)?
As a coach Dan’s season started in January with the Selwyn team and the U21 team and then the school team came on board in February. Dan would be involved in trainings, games, game analysis for all his teams and would contribute over 25 hours per week of his time.
 
How long has this person been volunteering for?
Dan has been coaching since he returned to NZ from his OE in 2005
 
Why does this volunteer deserve to win this award?
Dan deserves this award for the number of hours he has put in. His teams have been extremely successful this year, U21’s won national Tournament, his Selwyn club team were the minor premiers and only lost one game all year. The Shirley Boys High team got to the final of their National tournament.

Yvonne does countless hours for Hockey SC and if she actually told us the figure she told me her husband, Ben would wonder when she actually found time to run the farm too!!

How long have you been doing what you have been doing??
Played hockey since 6yrs old, coaching and admin since early 20's

Why does the volunteer deserve to win this award?
Yvonne is a worthy recipient of this title as she is committed to making Hockey SC, a successful association with top quality facilities and one that supports their players through to the highest level that they can.
She makes finding money to get to tournaments that little bit less frustrating, and is always willing to offer a helping hand when it might be needed, and that includes playing the occasional rep game too.



John Godfrey - Northland Hockey
A Brief Profile:
John Godfrey is a stall wart of the Hikurangi Hockey Club and the Northland Hockey Association. He has been involved with the Northland Hockey Association for the past 26 years. Over this time John has volunteered his services in many area’s within the hockey community. John a plumber has given his time usually free of charge and will drop everything when the call comes for the use of his knowledge and services. John started like most hockey coaches with being the parent of a hockey player. John’s involvement has not stopped once his children have left the hockey scene. He is at present coaching 2 teams, a Whangarei Girls High School collegiate team and a Hikurangi JMC team. Not only does John coach but he is also an active umpire and it is not often that you do not see Johns car in the car park on a Thursday night if not all weekend. The NHA would like to thank John for all his efforts over the past 26 years and without the continued efforts of volunteers like John all associations would fall apart.

What areas does this person volunteer in?
Tim is the coach of the Taupo Nui a Tia Girls 2nd XI, secretary of the Taupo Hockey Club and umpires the local secondary school competition. He recently umpired at the U16 Boys Championship Tournament in Rotorua and will be the umpire manager at the Kate Trolove Cup in Taupo

Tim spends 4hrs per week coaching his school team, 3 or more hours per week umpiring and 1hr per week at club exec meetings. Plus he is always on hand at club working bees for 4-5hrs every month.

How long has this person been volunteering for?
Tim has been involved with the Taupo Club and umpiring for the past 3 yrs. He has been coaching for 1 yr.

Why does this volunteer deserve to win this award?
Tim has a huge passion for the sport of hockey. He is always keen to help out and learn from those who work with him. Tim will most likely continue in many different roles into the future. His youth gives him much needed energy and drive.

Besides the below ares Roni is a general 'troubleshooter' who covers everyone's backs from the CEO to the Admin Officer to the RDM

• Oversees 'Ministicks' programmes

Why does this volunteer deserve to win this award?
Roni is an essential driving force in Otago Hockey. She is always positive, incredibly diligent, anticipates impending issues, excels in any task she takes on and almost lives at the turf. Without her Otago Hockey would be in dire straits.


This Months Volunteers were nominated from North Harbour Hockey Association and Hockey Southland. Congratulations to Colin Chester from North Harbour and Alex Irwin from Southland. Thank you both for your hard work and effort you put into volunteering in your Associations.

What areas does this person volunteer in?
Colin is chairman of the voluteers committee for North Habour Hockey Association. He leads a dedicated team that assist on a rostered basis with the busy weekend duties including general cleaning, watering of the pitches, light setting and match report gathering. The group is also dedicated to completing specific project work such as building / signage cleaning and maintenance, erection of bench seating at specific sites, turf grooming and completion of decking adjacent to Crown 2. Colin has also organised a voluteers emergency response unit to deal with unforseen circumstances that arise.

He currently coaches the Hibiscus Dairy Flat Hockey Clubs Senior One women's team, putting tremendous effort and time into this group of girls. After a slow start the team is now registering more frequent success and responding well under his guidence and compassionate manner.

Colin played for the North Harbour Masters 55+ team at the 2008 National Tournament. He is a well liked and respected member of the team.

Through his Chester Plumping business he has actively supported North Harbour through sponsorhip and provides his time free of charge to assist with plumbing maintenance as required. Chesters plumbing proudly sponsor the 'Big Screen' located in the lounge for all members enjoyment.

Why does this volunteer deserve to win this award?
Colin is passionate about hockey, passionate about people and passionate about the hockey community. He takes great pride and joy in his contribution to North Harbour Hockey, playing and representing his province, coaching the senior one girls, leading the volunteers committee and continuing sponsorship through his company Chesters Plumbing Limited. We, 'North Harbour', are truly greatful for his contributions and thoroughly believe that he should be recognised as volunteer of the month. We are simply delighted to have a guy like Colin Chester amongst our members!

Congratulations to The Volunteer of the Month Winners for June. They are Nic Porter from Wellington and Angela Wallace from Auckland. Hockey New Zealand greatly appreciates the time and effort that Nic and Angie give to their associations. What areas does this person volunteer in?
Nic was our specialist Goal Keeper coach at our new Pathways Programme. This was the first such GK specific training to be held in Wellington, and Nic with his Level 1 for both HNZ and the UK was the drving force behind the programme being a huge success. Nic was also the Goal Keeper coach at the U13, U16 and U18 Capital Regional Coaching Clinics held during the holidays.
When Nic isnt manager of the Wellington branch of Just Hockey he coaches the Victoria University Premier One Womens team in the Wellington competition.

How many hours a week does this person volunteer and in what role(s)?
On top of the 40 plus hours a week at Just Hockey Nic spends around 15-20 hours on volunteer coaching of various teams and individual players in Wellington.

How long has this person been volunteering for?
Nic has been in Wellington for two and a half years and has been a Representative coach at U15 level and also coached the Wellington National Womens (B) team last year.

Why does this volunteer deserve to win this award?
Nic derserves this award because of the time he gives up for others to reach their potenial. He has been institutional in the improvement of Goal Keepers in the Wellington region and he does it all with a smile.

Angie is the Secretary for the HowickPakuranga Juniors - covering 24 teams in total. She has held this role since 2001.
Angie also is the Manager of the Howick Pakuranga 11 Gold team which plays in the Top Junior 11 aside grade in Auckland.

How many hours a week does this person volunteer and in what role?
As secretary she spends about 5 hours per week managing the 24 teams. Prior to the season starting this can require more time, but eases off once things are running smoothly.
In her role as Manager, time revolves around team practices and games, about 3 hours per week.

How long has this person been volunteering for?
Angie was elected onto the Howick Pakuranga committee in 2000.
Since this time she has attended regular club meetings, and since 2001 has taken on the role of Junior Secretary for the club, responsible for 24 teams.
During this time Angie was also Manager of 2 teams - that her children played in.

Why does this volunteer deserve to win this award?
Angie is an organised and motivated volunteer who is friendly and approachable. She assists, whenever possible, with other hockey activities at Auckland hockey.
Angie has a dedicated 8 years to the Junior club making it a well run and organised club.
