Hockey NZ Masters Council Meeting
4th November 2007 – Waikato Hockey Pavilion.

Matters Arising: -
- Discussion on Grand Masters in Beijing. – NZ Not sending teams.
- Discussion on Masters Council rotation policy.
- Would like to call for nominations at National Masters tournament in February and hold elections four (4) weeks later.
- Nomination information to be sent out three (3) weeks prior to National Tournament.
Financial:-
- Discussion of unfinancial player
- Discussion of payment of player accounts.
- Get a deposit from each player to confirm selection within one (1) month after tournament or coach has a right to bring in somebody else.
- Discussion on players that pull out just after selection.
- Oversized baggage, players getting caught at the airport and having to pay but it was not excess baggage just odd shape of sports gear.
- Discussion re: claim for Excess Baggage - referred back to travel agent to resolve.
- Discussion on budget and financial report.
- Suzy Monds to be paid for extra hours worked prior to the tour to the UK.
IMHT:
- Summary of reports – discussed – lack of reports returned disappointing.
- Pat Barry Coaches report outstanding again.
- Discussion on player reports
• Letter to be sent to Craig Gribble and Brad Jensen re utilizing young under 21 umpires at the Trans Tasman Challenge and the National Masters Tournament as a training and development opportunity to possibly get a better standard of umpiring at Masters.
- Coaches / Managers feedback, - to come from HNZ Brad.
- Brad to have copy of reports
- Bridget to discuss with Brad
IMHT Tournament: -
- Discussion on
- Selection, organization, injuries, pulls outs, costs, beep tests and fitness.
- Hold a NZ Coaches forum at National tournament – Brad to facilitate.
- The possibility to also hold a managers forum and Debbie Balme to be approached to see if she could facilitate.
IMHT Improvements: -
- Insurance - All Participants take it for set tournament dates only, any time before or after those dates they sort themselves.
- Accommodation: - All participants in on the same dates and out on the same dates, anytime before or after those dates they sort themselves.
- Uniforms – Order some extra shirts etc to be built into player costs to cover pull outs.
- Delegate jobs out to Council members.
- Respond to player reports via managers on comments made in reports.
Brent Edwards HNZ Marketing and Sponsorship Manager:
- HNZ priorities are the Black Sticks
- Can use Masters to leverage off
- Naming sponsors for tournament
- Uniforms a big issue.
International Masters Hockey Council:
- Neil Greene has new title
- Has Masters Council any nominations for positions on the IMHC?
- Nominations so far - England – Chairperson
• Australia - Treasurer
• Australia – Technical
• Singapore – Vice President
- Looking for a vice president from a European country – no nominations so far.
- No suggested nominations from NZ
- Happy with nominations so far.
- Constitution has been approved.
- Neil to get confirmation if Hong Kong wants to host 2009 has Singapore as a back up.
- Masters Council will have to pay approx $300 US as a start up fund for administration.
Olympic Qualifying Tournament:
- Due to lack of response this will not be going ahead but Northern region teams are encouraged to have their pre national tournament warm up games around that time.
National Masters Tournament 08:
- Monitoring the progress on the replacement turf and fall back options is either Fielding or Wanganui.
Administrator Replacement:
- 3 applicants from Auckland
- 2 enquiries from non Aucklanders
- Interviews in progress.
Trans Tasman 2008:
- Waikato has organizing committee up and running.
- Discussion on formal functions and costs
- Masters Council to oversee organization
Medical team proposal discussed.
- Masters Council accepted proposal for medical team
- $30.00 per player for massage therapists and physio.
- One (1) massage therapist per team
- Doctor not needed, will utilize St Johns on site and local medical emergency clinics.
- Suzy to negotiate with physio.
Accommodation:
- Discussion on costs and quotes so far.
- Not to equalize, but to pay per motel.
- Payment to come directly from each player to motel not invoiced from
- HNZ.
Medals:
- Quotes received.
- Gold only 70mm – 170 medals, ordered
- Looking at other possible mementos such as an engraved wine glass with both logos on it.
Trans Tasman age brackets:
- dropped age bracket clause in Trans Tasman rules
- Aust women are sticking to five (5) year age bands
- Aust Men selecting their best team.
- Discussion
- Cap it – maximum three (3) players outside age band allowed per team.
Masters player survey:
- summary – lack of database in most regions
- specific masters competition – only 3 associations running them
- Maybe put together a poster promoting masters hockey – coaching, umpiring, playing, managing, pathways.
- Need something designed.
National Masters Hosts 2009/10:
- Waikato to host in 2009
- Accepted Nelsons proposal to host 2010
