Colin French (North Harbour) has recently returned from Europe with the Black Sticks Men where he toured as the umpire.
Karen Bennett (Canterbury) and Helen Napier (Otago) have returned from the 4 Nations tournament in Beijing. Karen was appointed as an umpire while Helen was a judge at the tournament.
Simon Taylor (North Harbour) has been appointed by FIH as a neutral umpire at the 4 Nations tournament held in Perth and Darwin in late April.
Mel Oakden (Northland) has been appointed by the EHF to a 4 Nations U21 tournament to be held in Edinburgh (27-29 June).
Devendra Patel (Wellington) will travel with the Black Sticks Men's team to umpire at the Azlan Shah tournament in Malaysia. Stuart Ashby (Hawkes Bay) has been appointed to the tournament as a judge.
The following umpires have been selected to officiate at the Transtasman Masters Tournament held from 12 - 18 May in Hamilton:
Sue Brown (Auckland), Sandi Notrdame (North Harbour), Liz Spratt (Tauranga), Barb Mead (Nelson), Merv Bint (Northland), Kit Rutherford (Waikato), Bruce Small (South Canterbury), Jeff Brown (Manawatu).
Bill Fenton (Northland) will be the TD.
Kelly Hudson (Waikato) has been selected to travel as an umpire with the Black Sticks on their 5 test series to China.
There have been four key FIH appointments to the Olympic Qualifying Tournament to be held in February. Ian Faulkner (Counties/Manukau) has been appointed as a Technical Officer and Warren Keenan (Tauranga) as a judge. Nigel Iggo (Canterbury) has been appointed as an umpire while Craig Gribble (Canterbury) will be the Assistant Umpire's Manager.
David Tomlinson and Jeff Brown both from Manawatu will travel to the U21 Invitational tournament in Kuala Lumpur in January. David has been appointed to umpire, while Jeff will be a judge.
2007
David Tomlinson (Manawatu) has been awarded the status of International Umpire after successfully passing his FIH grading in the recent test series between Australia and New Zealand. Congratulations David!
Hockey NZ is pleased to report the appointment of umpire Sarah Garnett to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Sarah is an experienced umpire and this recent appointment adds to her greatest achievement to date which was umpiring the final of the Women’s World Cup in 2006, Sarah has also been appointed to the Olympic Qualifying tournament in Canada in 2008.
Graham Child (Auckland) has been appointed to the Olympic Games in Beijing to be a member of the Jury of Appeal.
Jason McCracken (Auckland) attended the Champions Trophy in Kuala Lumpur at the end of November. He was appointed to this tournament as a judge.
Simon Taylor (North Harbour) has also been to the Champions Trophy, as an umpire. As a result of excellent performances, Simon has been placed on the world promising list of umpires. Umpires on this list are candidates to be appointed to World Cups and Olympic Games.
Masters Tournaments 2008
The 2008 National Masters Tournament will be held in Palmerston North from the 23rd February to the 2nd March
